Ederson out to break Premier League record

Should the Citizens claim maximum points against Brentford, Ederson will become the first Premier League player to reach 150 victories in fewer than 200 appearances.

The 29-year-old has been Pep Guardiola's undisputed number one since his arrival from Benfica in the summer of 2017 and he is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

During his time at the Etihad, Ederson has made a total of 259 appearances across all competitions, keeping 129 clean sheets.

Ederson conceded his 200th goal between the sticks for the Citizens when Fulham's Andreas Pereira converted from the penalty spot last weekend.

Nevertheless, Man City turned the game on its head to win 2-1 – courtesy of a 95th-minute winning penalty from Erling Braut Haaland – and Guardiola's side remain two points behind leaders Arsenal.

That victory was Ederson's 149th with Man City in the Premier League after 195 appearances and another win on Saturday will see the Brazilian make history in the competition.

Ederson, who won the Premier League Golden Glove along with Alisson Becker last season after keeping 20 clean sheets, has already kept six shutouts in the top flight this campaign along with Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale and Newcastle United's Nick Pope.

City's No.31 watched on from the substitutes' bench as Man City secured a 2-0 win at home against Chelsea in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday, with Guardiola's side thankful for an inspired performance from backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Nevertheless, Ederson is expected to return between the sticks against Brentford as they bid to climb to the top of the Premier League table before Arsenal face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.

City will be confident of success against the Bees at the Etihad as they have put together an impressive 16-game winning streak on home soil across all competitions dating back to April.
