Champions League Match Preview : AC Milan vs FC Salzburg

AC Milan looking to secure a place in the knockout round, when they hosts last match group stage against RB Salzburg at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday.

Salzburg slumped to their first defeat in the competition this season, losing 2-1 against Chelsea at home in their last group stage match. Junior Adamu scored in the loss.

Milan are second in the group on seven points, while Salzburg's six points place them third. The home side are currently in position for a place in the knockout round, while the visitors are in line to be transferred to the Europa League knockout round play-offs.

Milan and Salzburg played out a 1-1 draw in the first group stage meeting at Red Bull Arena on 6 September. Noah Okafor scored die Bullen's only goal in the 28th minute. Alexis Saelemaekers scored the lone goal for the Italian side in the 40th minute.

Milan have been led by Giroud and Saelemaekers in Champions League play. The pair are the team's joint top scorers with two goals. Giroud has scored the critical first goal of the match once. Okafor has been the leading attacking threat for Salzburg, scoring on three occasions in this season's Champions League, including two match-opening goals.

The visitors have scored in each of their five Champions League contests this season.

Hosts Milan have one win and one loss this season in their two previous Champions League contests at home.

Salzburg played out a draw in both of their previous contests away from Red Bull Arena in the competition this season. Die Bullen are looking to add to a nine-match away unbeaten streak (W7 D2 L0) in all competitions.

In their last six matches in all competitions, Milan have won four and lost two. They scored 13 and conceded six in that period, scoring first in four of the six contests. They had five first-half goals, while their opponents netted five times in the first 45 minutes. 

Salzburg have won three, drawn two and lost one in their last six. They scored 12 and conceded five in that stretch, netting first in four of the six. They had six goals in the first half, while their opponents netted three times before the break.
