Atalanta maintained their unbeaten away record in the 2022/23 Serie A campaign

Atalanta bounced back from its first defeat of the season by winning 2-0 at Empoli on Sunday. Atalanta lost its first match of the season last week, against Lazio.

However, this win make as Atalanta maintained their unbeaten away record in the 2022/23 Serie A campaign.

On the back of collecting their highest-ever points tally (24) at this stage of a Serie A campaign, Atalanta began assertively, as Guglielmo Vicario had to be on his toes to prevent joint La Dea’s topscorer Ademola Lookman from breaking the deadlock.

In response, Mattia Destro witnessed his ambitious chip come down on the top of the net, but Atalanta should have been ahead shortly after the quarter-hour mark, only for Vicario to thwart Éderson from close-range.

Atalanta’s threat eventually paid dividends in the 32nd minute, when Hans Hateboer netted for the first time in over two years, after Empoli had failed to pick up the Dutch international’s presence at the back post.

Atalanta could have made it two goals but Koopmeiners failed to convert his penalty in the 42nd minute.

Atalanta did double its lead in the 59th minute when Lookman controlled the ball on the left of the area, dribbled past three Empoli players until he found a gap and drilled a shot into the bottom left corner.

Atalanta’s Duván Zapata also had a goal ruled out for offside as did Empoli defender Tyronne Ebuehi late on.
